19th Century, Antique silverplate coffee pot produced by the Derby Silver Company, North America 19th century. Signed on the bottom. Good conditions overall, original patina Very particular object finely decorated and worked with chisel. The Derby Silver Company was founded in 1872 and began operations on Shelton's Canal Street a year later. The company soon became too large for its neighborhoods and in 1877 built a larger building, which still stands on Bridge Street, Shelton, near the Housatonic River, overlooking Derby. Numerous additions were completed in the following years. The original Canal Street building was razed when the railroad was built through Shelton in 1888. In 1898, the plant merged with the International Silver Company, a consortium of Connecticut silver companies. At that time the works of the Derby Silver Company were known as Factory B. Therefore, as a rule of thumb, items with the Derby Silver Company logo most likely date back to the 19th century.
