This Taylor Deep Frying Guide Thermometer is a perfect 1960's throw back complete with bright red wood top handle and glass thermometer attached to a metal demarcated frame. The front of the piece is gradated from 95 degrees to 550 degrees on the left side and Taylor Deep Frying-Guide on the right hand side. A glass thermometer is bracketed into the center of the gradated piece. The back of the piece has a sturdy metal clip to hold the thermometer in place that has Press to Adjust embossed in the clip. The original box for this piece is also included. This piece is in really nice condition. I do not believe it was ever used as their is no greasiness to the surface and no usage marks and the bright red paint on the handle is not chipped or cracked and I believe it would still do a fine job of reading the temperature as intended. There is a hole in the red handle, making it easy to use as a display item. The box is in rougher shape, although still structurally sound on the sides. The ends are compromised; the tabs are missing and the cardboard is ruffed from putting the thermometer into the box. The front graphics on the box are nice with the image of a cook in darker blue on a yellowish background. The front of the box indicates Taylor Deep Frying Guide. The back is blank. The one side indicates - This thermometer has a protective coat of clear lacquer which must be removed by boiling in water for ten minutes. Rinse in clear warm water and the thermometer is ready to use. Reg US Pat Off Box Printed in USA Taylor Instrument Corporation Rochester, NY. There is some pencil writing on the front - I think the original price was $2.50. And that bright red color - love it! This is part of an amazing vintage red-handle farmhouse kitchen tool set that I acquired at a recent Estate sale. See the video for all the pieces available.
