The Wusthof Classic Ikon knife sharpener features a 2 stage process to get your blades back to their factory razor sharp edge. The coarse slot features diamond rods to sharpen the edge of an extremely dull knife. The fine slot features ceramic rods to hone and finish the edge after the stage 1 sharpening. The fine slot can also be used to regularly maintain the edge of your blades.
