During Queen Victoria's reign, tea became a symbol of Britain's greatest period of expansion and stability. Every home owned a teapot, even if it was a basic Brown Betty. Tea was no longer a refined upper class beverage, but the basis of a whole meal. While Charleston dancers and many Victorian glamours have disappeared from the scene, the humble Brown Betty has remained a firm favorite. Its origins go back to the to the end of the 17th century and to the birth of the ceramic teapot.

The Re-engineered Brown Betty Teapot is the result of a three-year research and development project by the award-winning British designer Ian McIntyre. Working with Cauldon Ceramics, historical precedents in the history of the Brown Betty including patents from the 1920s have been re-introduced – such as the ‘locking lid’ and the ‘non-drip spout’. New design details have also been implemented - including a stacking facility and a loose leaf tea infuser.
