Measurement of the phase angle (PhA) from bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) can be explored as a quick and non-invasive method to measure muscle activity and strength, especially useful in people with weaker or still-developing muscles. Scientists from Japan now report that both, whole-body and thigh PhA can be used to assess the knee extensors’ contractile properties, but thigh PhA is the preferred predictor for knee extensor strength.
